I must say Wasim Akram was the greatest fast bowler ever born (he could do anything with the ball except swing it like a reptile with a single delivery), but today Akhtar is the best fast bowler. The Bret Lees and the Shane Bonds and the Chaminda Vaas come a distant 30th and 40th and 50th, not second or third or fourth. Dear Indians don't even think about Munaf Patel.
Check the photo above, just the sheer pace at which Akhtar runs towards the batsmen, looks like he is going to bowl fast, very fast, very very fast.
Among all the controversies and all the problems he has faced, there is one thing which you can always see in this guy, "THE PASSION TO BOWL FAST". Like Lance Amstrong said "I want to do everything fast fast", same way Akhtar wants to bowl fast. Check his video here.
The effort and dedication he shows while he is bowling is amazing. The inswinging yorkers and bouncers is always a treat to watch. More than that even if his bowling is not getting him wickets, his dedication towards speed is just mind blowing. I wish I had so much dedication in my professional as well as personal life.
Ah please please don't call him a chucker. If Muralidharan "The Javelin Thrower - Who Plays Cricket" can take more than 600 wickets in test matches, then I would say Akhtar's action is as smooth as a BMW engine. More than that, I say as a fast bowler one should be allowed to bowl with a little chuck action or else his career would be injury prone. Just see the career of Shane Bond. Bowls as clear as Dravid's cover drive and as fast as Sehwag's cut shot, but has played one tenth the matches. So thoda bahut toh chalta hai yaar. ;-)
Rest I wish he was in the Indian team atleast for the world cup 2007. It would be amazing fun. Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid, Yuvi, Kaif, Dhoni, Pathan score 450 runs in 50 overs. Akhtar comes in to bowl the first over of the next innings and takes a HAT TRICK. Ah, what a treat !!! Inshah Allah aisa ho jaye toh main ghee ke diye jaloon. He is great if not the greatest. I remember when he got Tendulkar and Dravid in two consecutive in-swinging yorkers. He knocked my brains off with that spell.
I however can never get to liking him for..
1) He is a Pakistani
2) He is too arrogant to even go by his Captain's plans

At LAST, I see an Indian male who has conceded that he is indeed the best! I have been a fan of Shoaib since 1999's Coca-Cola Sharjah Cup (I think he debuted just around then) but for more reasons that one ;) Look at him. So #@$%*^@ HOT!!!! *DROOL*
But yeah, I've always known he's amazing. Especially his ultra-long run ups, during which you just KNOW that the batsman is probably pissing in his pants. In fact, last World Cup, Pakistan had such an AWESOME bowling line up - Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, Saqlain (gotta love his "mystery ball"), Razzaq and Mahmood! Sigh. I miss this old team. As you can tell, I was a HUGE fan. And that's about all I can say in public, before other Indians come to beat me up!

The bowling attack has always been better than any team since ages but the politics in the team is better than all the teams combined together... :-)

Who said I don't appreciate him? Theres a difference between 'great' and 'favourite'. Just that I am not enough politically correct to ADORE the arch rivals gives a reason to you to get judgemental? Agar mere ko pata nahin hota na ki tu bhi dil se baccha hi hai Inzzy ki tarah to teri waat laga deta! =))
ps: there was only one teacher who never slapped me and that was our sports instructor. So don't se I was never in a Univ team. I was there in many teams which will take a lot of time to enumerate if I start typing. You can say I was a loser in academics and I don't mind. :/

Abe O Don Juan DeMarco, Firstly Im not from Mathura University. Im from REC Hamirpur(NIT now) which falls under Himachal Pradesh University. Now HPU is not known for its sporting exploits like PU is, but then neither is IIT. =))

Thats bloody quick. It has more to do with IIT JEE rather than IIT as such. They pull the top brains. And talking about the top brains, what are you doing there? How did you manage to crack the JEE? Nakal mari thi kya pappe? :p
