Shoaib Akhtar - I Salute You

This post is dedicated to the best fast bowler right now.

I must say Wasim Akram was the greatest fast bowler ever born (he could do anything with the ball except swing it like a reptile with a single delivery), but today Akhtar is the best fast bowler. The Bret Lees and the Shane Bonds and the Chaminda Vaas come a distant 30th and 40th and 50th, not second or third or fourth. Dear Indians don't even think about Munaf Patel.

Check the photo above, just the sheer pace at which Akhtar runs towards the batsmen, looks like he is going to bowl fast, very fast, very very fast.

Among all the controversies and all the problems he has faced, there is one thing which you can always see in this guy, "THE PASSION TO BOWL FAST". Like Lance Amstrong said "I want to do everything fast fast", same way Akhtar wants to bowl fast. Check his video here.

The effort and dedication he shows while he is bowling is amazing. The inswinging yorkers and bouncers is always a treat to watch. More than that even if his bowling is not getting him wickets, his dedication towards speed is just mind blowing. I wish I had so much dedication in my professional as well as personal life.

Ah please please don't call him a chucker. If Muralidharan "The Javelin Thrower - Who Plays Cricket" can take more than 600 wickets in test matches, then I would say Akhtar's action is as smooth as a BMW engine. More than that, I say as a fast bowler one should be allowed to bowl with a little chuck action or else his career would be injury prone. Just see the career of Shane Bond. Bowls as clear as Dravid's cover drive and as fast as Sehwag's cut shot, but has played one tenth the matches. So thoda bahut toh chalta hai yaar. ;-)

Rest I wish he was in the Indian team atleast for the world cup 2007. It would be amazing fun. Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid, Yuvi, Kaif, Dhoni, Pathan score 450 runs in 50 overs. Akhtar comes in to bowl the first over of the next innings and takes a HAT TRICK. Ah, what a treat !!! Inshah Allah aisa ho jaye toh main ghee ke diye jaloon. (Virdi then slaps his forehead, "kaash aisa hota")

Oh b.t.w his best friend is Ashish Nehra. Khi Khi Khi Khi. (Dilli and Duffer and Pindi ki Express are best friends.)

To Rawalpindi Expresss I salute. Jaa Pathan Jaa, Kar Le Duniya Moothi Mein.

aaj Rawalpindi express pein dil kaise aa gaya tera??

Kya kha liya tune??

Karachi sweets kya??

Yeah I like to enjoy watching him bowl fast fast and then Sachin hit him to a fast :)

He is great if not the greatest. I remember when he got Tendulkar and Dravid in two consecutive in-swinging yorkers. He knocked my brains off with that spell.

I however can never get to liking him for..
1) He is a Pakistani
2) He is too arrogant to even go by his Captain's plans
3) He is a sledger of the worst kind

At LAST, I see an Indian male who has conceded that he is indeed the best! I have been a fan of Shoaib since 1999's Coca-Cola Sharjah Cup (I think he debuted just around then) but for more reasons that one ;) Look at him. So #@$%*^@ HOT!!!! *DROOL*

But yeah, I've always known he's amazing. Especially his ultra-long run ups, during which you just KNOW that the batsman is probably pissing in his pants. In fact, last World Cup, Pakistan had such an AWESOME bowling line up - Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, Saqlain (gotta love his "mystery ball"), Razzaq and Mahmood! Sigh. I miss this old team. As you can tell, I was a HUGE fan. And that's about all I can say in public, before other Indians come to beat me up!

Arz000n>> Abe Rawalpindi Express rocks yaar... And yes it was a treat to watch when he was hit for 18 runs in the world cup 2003... But he did get Sachin with a quick bouncer in the match... (Sachin was injured then and by that time the match was already over)

I am also a big fan of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis...

I am a great fan of Pakistan bowlers and Pakistan Hockey... Sohail Abaas is God!!! India hockey team sucks and I bet any Pakistani club can belt them...

However you can never appreciate great players because:
1. You must have never play a sport dil se...
2. You might have never got into a University team...
3. You might have never fought for a place in the team...
4. Being a Pakistani can never make him a less great bowler...

It would be better for you if you appreciate a player rather than his nationality...

Miss V>> Arre I am great fan of Akhtar... He is too good yaar... The joy on his face after he takes a wicket is amazing treat to watch... And yes Pakistan had a great bowling attack, but th biggest problem is that they are very consistently inconsistent... I believe Abdul Razaq is the best Alrounder today... Kallis was great but right now Razaq is the best...

Pakistani bowlers started the reverse swing and the white men cribbed saying BALL TAMPERING... Bloody sisi babies... And then the mystery bowl by Saqqi Bhai... It was copied by every off spinner and now is called the DOOSRA...

The bowling attack has always been better than any team since ages but the politics in the team is better than all the teams combined together... :-)

talking about controveries and Akhtar lets not talk about that when Shane Warne is alive... ;-)

And how can we forget Moin Khan behind the wickets," Kya kar rahe ho Saqqi Bhai? Saqqi Bhai bahut aala bowling!!" Mast tha woh...

I over heard some commentator saying "Ashlie Giles is not even fit for GULLY cricket in India or Pakistan or Sri Lanka" he he he he...

The funniest thing today is when Inzy Bhai comes for the awards ceremony and looks like a 12 year old obese child, "Bismillah e rehman ek rahim. First thanks to Allah. nahi ladke aacha khele but hum logon ne fielding aachi nahi ki na, is liye haar gaye. nahi bowling theek thi but agar aap panch catches drop karoge then you can't win na" hahahaha... he looks so innocent... aacha banda hai... Mom loves him...

Aye haye Virdee tera gussa! Main waari jawan tere gusse pe :p

//1. You must have never play a sport dil se...
What makes you think so?

//2. You might have never got into a University team...
What makes you think so?

//3. You might have never fought for a place in the team...
What makes you think so?

//4. Being a Pakistani can never make him a less great bowler...
Who said so? I said in the first sentence that he is great! You think he is the greatest and I think he is just great and it is ok.

//It would be better for you if you appreciate a player rather than his nationality...
Who said I don't appreciate him? Theres a difference between 'great' and 'favourite'. Just that I am not enough politically correct to ADORE the arch rivals gives a reason to you to get judgemental? Agar mere ko pata nahin hota na ki tu bhi dil se baccha hi hai Inzzy ki tarah to teri waat laga deta! =))

ps: there was only one teacher who never slapped me and that was our sports instructor. So don't se I was never in a Univ team. I was there in many teams which will take a lot of time to enumerate if I start typing. You can say I was a loser in academics and I don't mind. :/

virdi 3:48 PM, March 21, 2006

hmmm... whatever... dont believe that Mathura University is a worthy enough to be called a University !!!

tinku,  4:18 PM, March 21, 2006

Abe O Don Juan DeMarco, Firstly Im not from Mathura University. Im from REC Hamirpur(NIT now) which falls under Himachal Pradesh University. Now HPU is not known for its sporting exploits like PU is, but then neither is IIT. =))

I give up! Tu khush reh. :/

virdi 5:04 PM, March 21, 2006

Abe yaar... You dont know the standard of Inter IIT... Every IIT has some 4000 students and there are 7 IITs... Abe mast fun hota hai yaar... Major competition...

I have been trying to put a video of Inter IIT on "YOUTUBE" since past few days but kuch problem hai...

If you come and see the inter hostels matches then pata chal jayega... REC Hamirpur Shamirpur ke toh humara koi bhi hostel chakke chuda dega in any game... Dekh loonga ek ek ko... Dekh loonga... Hmmmmmph!!!

tinku,  10:33 PM, March 21, 2006

//REC Hamirpur Shamirpur ke toh humara koi bhi hostel chakke chuda dega

Sirf carrom board aur ludo mein! =))

trups 4:50 AM, March 22, 2006

abe yaar haan shoaib is good! he's got dedication, but yaar he prefers to sit out in most of the matches with india :))

and and and his stronglas ad with zoya akhtar (did i get her name ryte?) was supercool!!!

virdi 6:24 AM, March 22, 2006

Tinku>> Beta pappu... we don't play games jismein dimag nahi lagta... May be they play such stupid games in Hamirpur...

What I can do is organise a Sudoku completition between the dogs of IIT and students of REC Hamirpur...

You do stand a chance I say !!! Khi Khi Khi Khi

Trupsster>> Woh injury ka bahana karta hai... Thoda idiot hai... But is a great great bowler...

And that "stronglas" advert mein jo Daadi-Ma hai her name is Zora Sehgal... She is ultra cool Daadi Ma... :-)

tinku,  2:29 PM, March 22, 2006

Virdee - ok sudoku too and snakes and ladders too! Khush? =))

//but yaar he prefers to sit out in most of the matches with india :))

Thats because all the time he is trying to break the 100 mile barrier against India and every time the ball ends up breaking the 200 mile barrier while flying over the fence =))

virdi 5:25 PM, March 22, 2006

India waale toh bahut waat lagate hain Akhtar ki yaar... I remember Sehwag and Sachin hitting left, right and center during the world cup... Mast maaza aaya tha!!!

tinku,  9:05 PM, March 22, 2006

Mast bola tu! And about sudoku I'll have to agree IITians will rule there. I was reading the blog of this guy called Handa whom sayesha has linked and he solves it in under 2 minutes. Thats bloody quick. It has more to do with IIT JEE rather than IIT as such. They pull the top brains. And talking about the top brains, what are you doing there? How did you manage to crack the JEE? Nakal mari thi kya pappe? :p

ps: expected reply "tu meri kaamyabi se jalta hai" =))
